Description |
English: LIBI_00019_00246; This item is a silver gelatin print postcard of Appomattox Court House. The postcard is 3 1/2 x 5 1/2" and was produced circa 1914 commissioned by A.L. Cheney. Some hazing is evident on the image. This item is part of a photographic series and on the front bottom center, a handwritten notation in blue ink reads, "No. 1." On the verso, a handwritten notation reads: "Appomattox C.H./The piles of debris in the edge of the trees are from the McLean house in which Grant & Lee drew up the terms of surrender. This house was taken down to be removed to the World's Fair in 1893, but the project fell through, with the result that remains of the house are as indicated by this picture. The house sat back from the street in the little hamlet & was the first one on the right as one entered the place coming from Appomattox Station./Taken Oct. 1914/Thos. C. Cheney."; Postcard, Photographic [Souvenir] ; Courtesy of the National Park Service, Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, LIBI_00019_0024
