Description

Raphidocystis, a centrohelid amoeba, is covered by plate-like scales. Thin axopodia extend from the cell body, which the cell uses to capture prey, such as the flagellates here.

Date: 24 Aug 2011, originally collected 23 Aug 2011

Location: Small lake in Kent Ridge Park, Singapore. Water margin with vegetation, brown sediment with organic detritus. Tadpoles resting nearby.

Microscope: Bright-field with closed condenser aperture.

Camera: Nikon D7000

Collector: Brandon Seah

Scale: Field of view is about 240 micrometers across.
