Title |
English: Ceylon--Old World aids new in the war |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
English: East has met west in Ceylon, and in the twain are joined a common effort against the Japanese. Taken at a British Fleet Air Arm base by a U.S. Navy photographer during a visit of a Navy carrier to the Indian waters to participate in combined operations against the Jap-held East Indies, these photographs portray the seeming anachronism of the war in Ceylon --where the Old World helps the New towards Victory. This gesture means 'Stop!' in any language. A Ceylon Chovkidar (watchman) in a red helmet and blue uniform bars visitors to the base until credentials are checked. |
