English: Tomographic cross-sections of an OPT-imaged, ligation-injured mouse femoral artery. After tomographic reconstruction, cross-sectional OPT images (excitation 425 nm with 40 nm band-pass; emission 475 nm long pass) can be animated for qualitative evaluation of vascular structure (in addition to quantitative measurement). In ligation-injured femoral arteries, presented in this way, morphologically-normal vessel can be seen proximal to the site of ligation and the media and lumen can be distinguished. Closer to the ligation, neointima formation is apparent, and this can also be distinguished from the media and lumen. The size of this lesion increases with proximity to the ligation, and eventually completely occludes the vessel. The position of each cross-section within the artery is indicated on the non-tomographic image inset left. |
