| Description |
English: Portmuck harbour, Islandmagee. Portmuck harbour was built to facilitate the export of limestone from Islandmagee. By the 1920s it had become ruinous. A Government grant was available to renovate piers if a certain number of fishermen were dependent on the pier in question. It is said that a number of deceased fishermen supported the locals in their application. (There is an excellent article in the Summer 1986 issue of The Countryman). It is now partly silted up and is used only by sea-angling boats and for launching jet skis. |
