[edit]DescriptionPillbox and the valley of the Black Burn - geograph.org.uk - 655823.jpg |
English: Pillbox and the valley of the Black Burn Lying within the Otterburn MOD Training Area http://www.army.mod.uk/ate/public/otterburn.htm . This unlovely structure is
an observation post which was probably built after World War I and is one of a pair, which survives from an original group of four. They represent an early phase of range safety and security on the Otterburn Army Training Estate and was probably influenced by German methods of construction learnt during World War I. The Redesdale examples are thought to be unparalleled and are therefore an important survival in the history of military training in England and as a result is a Scheduled Monument protected by law http://www.keystothepast.info/durhamcc/K2P.nsf/K2PDetail?readform&PRNMAP=N13815. |
