[edit]- Achal: Can we begin by asking if there is anything special about the Morula Liquor, that other drinks do not have?
- Lucy: Morula, we like the fact that we do not buy, unlike any other liquor, we do not buy, we drink for free.
- Achal: Has the way of making Morula changed in the last ten to twenty years, in a way, that you know?
- Lucy: We still make it the same way it was done years ago.
- Achal: But it terms of the implements, like, in terms of the buckets that are used here, in terms of the cups, could you show us, which are, what are the things around the Morula drink that they are using to make and drink it? Like the stones over there. Could you explain that in details.
- Lucy: The cups are from the garden, they grow up as vegetables, we use them to drink Morula.
- Achal: Are this cups only used for Morula or for other drinks as well?
- Lucy: We use it only on the days that we drink Morula.
- Achal: And what is the vegetable that the cup is made of, what is called in Sepedi?
- Lucy: It’s "Monoko".
- Achal: "Monoko", and then, does it find that, are there, do the young children pick Marula on their own and try to make it, or is it, do they drink it sometimes, are they sometimes allowed to?
- Lucy: Chidren, they drink it while it is still sweet (meaning before it ferments), the next morning after it is made, while it is still sweet, that is the only time they would drink it. After three days it is for adults only.
- Achal: Aaah, after three days when Marula turns into alcohol, how many days after that can you drink the same batch? You know.
- Lucy: If it is properly sealed, you can drink till the fifth day, it ferments slowly. On the fifth day if it properly sealed, you can drink it.
- Achal: How do you store Marula liquor?
- Lucy: You keep it sealed with a lid in a bucket like that one.
- Achal: Does she know, where all in South Africa, the Amarula fruit grow. I just also want to clarify the Marula is single, can you just explain Marula, amarula, the difference, the fruit, the liquor, you know the names for each thing.
- Lucy: The difference is on the first day (second day coutning the day it was made) it is still sweet, then on the third day, it ferments and gets bitter.
- Achal: No. The question I was asking is terminology. Okay. So, could we for one second, split to asking Ms Moremi the same question, I just want to understand the terminology. What is the name of the fruit, the name of the liquor and also what is Marula, aMarula the difference in terms of what it means.
- Ms Moremi: The difference is that the fruit is Marula, when it is pilled and processed, in three days it gets bitter, it is Morula.
- Achal: And the name of the alcohol will be Aramula.
