Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pegwell Bay, Kent, looking towards Ramsgate. Pegwell Bay is, by tradition, the place where the first Saxons, led by Hengist and Horsa, landed in AD449. It is also where St Augustine arrived in England in AD597 to return it to Christianity. More recently it saw the passage of many thousands of holidaymakers when it became the base for a hovercraft terminal. The shoreline of the bay has been extended in recent times by the dumping of landfill.
