Nederlands: Detail van een 17e-eeuwse tekening van de Arcus Einhardi (Einhardsboog) in de Bibliothèque nationale de France in Parijs, collectie manuscrits occidentaux, français, nr. 10440, folio 45. De Einhardsboog is een verloren gegaan zilveren voetstuk van een reliekenkruis in de vorm van een Romeinse triomfboog. Het kostbare voorwerp ontstond begin 9e eeuw in de Akense werkplaatsen en werd omstreeks 825 door Einhard (volgens het opschrift) geschonken aan de Sint-Servaaskerk in Maastricht. Daar bleef het bijna 1000 jaar bewaard, totdat het in de Franse tijd verloren ging, waarschijnlijk omgesmolten. Hier een detail van een ruiter te paard in de poortopening van de boog, mogelijk keizer Lotharius. |
