Description
English: Title: Panslavismo

Abstract: Italian political cartoon shows a wall at center labeled "Panslavismo" that separates a scene on the left, showing events from 1878, from a scene on the right, showing events from 1882. On the left, a white bear labeled "Russia" is perched near the top of a tree labeled "Santo Stefano" to which, at top, is tied a Turkish flag labeled "Costantinopoli"; the bear has a bag of "Rublis" hanging at its side. At the base of the tree three men are yelling and gesturing toward the bear, the man on the left is labeled "Inghilter" (England), the man at center is labeled "Austria", and the man on the right is labeled "Prussia", each holds a large club, the Prussian man also holds a large saw labeled "T. Berlino"; they demand that the Russian Bear come down the tree away from the Turkish flag. The scene on the right side of the wall shows a battered soldier clinging to the top of a tree labeled "Occupazione Austriaca". About half-way up the tree, at a spot labeled "Grivoscie", is a black bear climbing toward the soldier; at the base of the tree, on the left, is a white bear holding a stick labeled "Orso Della Russia" and on the right is a brown bear holding a stick labeled "Orso Del Erzegovina"; all three bears have their teeth bared as they snarl at the man in the tree. In the background, on the right margin, Otto von Bismarck, is peering over the top of a mountain, a spiked helmet is on the ground next to him.
