Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n 778, l/n AT037. Built in May 1989, this Tornado is one of the ‘twin-stick’ aircraft which tended to be used more for training or pilot conversion. Despite this, it was one of the type to carry out air defence patrols from Saudi Arabia in 1991, during the first Gulf War. It then joined 11sqn at RAF Leeming coded ‘DX’. In 1997 it moved to 111sqn at RAF Leuchars where she remained for many years. Her final unit was the F.3 training unit, 56(R)sqn, based at RAF Lossiemouth. It was retired and delivered to East Fortune on 13th September 2005. On display, still in 56(R)sqn markings, in the Military Aviation Hangar at the National Museum of Flight (part of National Museums Scotland). East Fortune Airfield, East Lothian, Scotland.
