Palaeolithic handaxe
Description
English: A large flint handaxe of Palaeolithic date in the Acheulian tradition. It is sub-triangular in form with a pointed oval shaped cross section and struck from flint that has a stained medium to dark brown colour. The axe has a rounded tip with triangular butt end and heavy flake scars on all surfaces. It shows signs of having been rolled whilst in the ground. This axehead measures 186mm in length, 115mm in width, 52mm in thickness and weighs 989g. It is of Lower Palaeolithic date, c.500,000-40,000 BC.
