English: LIBI_00312_10943; Albumen Cabinet photograph, landscape. This image depicts a group of Omaha Native American Men dancing. The dancers are clumped in a circle, facing inward. All are wearing traditional dress including feathered bustles and bells on their legs. A handwritten note on the margin reads: “Indian Omaha Dance. Chardron Neb. July 4th 1887” [or 1884]. Handwritten notes in ink on the top of the verso reads: “At This Dance were over 500 naked and painted young braves; while from 50 to 75 squaws. Formed a circle at one side and danced while the others rested. There was estimated 1600 Sioux and Cheyennes in town on that day; from Pine Ridge Agency.” Below this, a note in pencil reads: “July 4th + 5th 1887”. A final note in pencil along the bottom of the verso reads: “Chadron was only a little village of 5 or 6 hundred people; and every one was alarmed and excited = fearing war= There was a beef issue of live animals and the shooting was not far from town” There is some light acid damage on the top left corner of the front of this image. This image was created by George E. Trager on July 4, 1887.
