excavation on the west end of Las Monjas by Augustus Le Plongeon, Chichen Itza

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Photographer's caption: "This excavation on the west end of Las Monjas by Augustus Le Plongeon, French explorer in about 1873 shows three additions to the original structure. The Governor of Yucatan, Miguel Canton, and General Eugenio Martinez, Chief of the Federal Forces in Yucatan, and their associates are standing above the excavation. I am standing third from the right. April 27, 1924."

Notes: Miguel Cantón briefly served as acting Governor of Yucatan for less than a month. Augustus Le Plongeon was from the Island of Jersey, not France.
