Summary

English: Old borrow dyke, Hadleigh Marshes. This is the near the final stage of sea wall construction, at the Benfleet end of the Hadleigh marshes. The borrow dyke seen here is the last remnants of the old borrow dyke. At this point there is not enough room to create a new one inland because of the railway track just visible to the upper right. On the right (inland) of the borrow dyke are the beginnings of the landward bund that will form the landward margin of the new sea wall. The old borrow-dyke will be filled with rubbish and the whole capped with clay soil. 1028994 shows the well-established sea wall just east of here in 2008. |
