English: Piano Improvising- 'Now's The Time' (A learnt & Exercised combination of both Ray d’Inverno & Miles Davis' Teaching version and Charlie Parker's original one):
This sound file was a beginning edition of 'Now's The Time' (Charlie Parker) following an educational series - TAWTUTB "Things Ain't What They Used To Be" ( Mercer Ellington) which I had created. (Wikimedia Commons introduction: ). In the platform of Future Learn, my tutor Ray from University of London has developed it to be a F key leading version for teaching and learning. I had connected them together in a whole paragraph (I called it in 'English Suites Thinking', which I had stated in 'English suites' thoughts of 'Royal Suites' in my Wikiversity User page: https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/User:Jason_M._C.,_Han), for Piano Exercises of basic fingering skills, chords' construction and music theoretical reasoning. You can see Parker's version as a solution of Ray's simple one. Then, we would travel in this tune from b minor to F system and its relative B flatten supplement, finally back to C, and also land from note D to note C.
In my Exercise Version, Seventh-Tenths were mainly applied in Jazz Accompaniment, with a rolling B flatten 7 added for the solution of hands' 'Stride problem' (feeling uncomfortable to cover a tenth across black note). It has also been gently coordinated with 'direct chord-beating's' strong feeling. Minutes (0.35-0.36) were in a rolling from G minor seventh to G diminished seventh, which was a favorite of myself - keeping a shift between different colours for existing & progressing harmony. But, this skill would need more trainings 'To be heard good and natural'. We can see it as a small exercise draft (though from many views, it was an advanced edition in my life, after my many educational researches and experiences in piano) that many other ideas would also be opened 'to think and try out'. Afterwards, in the 'wiki-tree', I would like it is in another educational series of 'Now's The Time' developed from the 'TAWTUTB series' for my Future Learn usages and our other educational purposes, which we can feel free to learn, teach and share. It's further developmental series was in order as: 2nd variation (Suite) - |
