Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Nothing to do with Wesley. This inscribed gatepost at the entrance to the Cilshafe farms has been attributed to the presence here of John Wesley who was active in the area during the late C18. The initial I.W. can be seen, a cross in a circle, and the partially obliterated date 175? The acute angle of the incomplete final numeral could be a 3, 4, or 5.

In fact, John Wesley did not visit Pembrokeshire during any those years. And in the wall of the Cilshafe Fawr farm buildings 204832 is another inscribed stone with the same initials and the date 1760. This suggests that I.W. was a C18 land owner here who left his mark upon his property.

A visit by John Wesley is commemorated a few miles away at Trecwn 442427.
