Summary
[edit]DescriptionNew Mill, Scammonden - geograph.org.uk - 691051.jpg |
English: New Mill, Scammonden This was a water-powered woollen mill on Hey Clough. It was shown on the 1854 6 inch map, and was shown as disused on one of c. 1910. The projecting part of the building probably contained the wheel, although I could not see a tail race down to the stream.
The mill was built by John Crabtree, who lived the Shoulder of Mutton (Crabtree House and now Glen View). It was called Tholling Wood Mill, although the name 'New Mill' persisted on the OS maps. |
