Summary
[edit]DescriptionNSG-Neckarburg Maeanderdurchbruch Obere-Gaeue.jpg |
English: The loop (meander), “Neckarburg”, of River Neckar ca. 3km north of Rottweil was abandoned in Quaternary by a breakthrough of the two closest parts of the bend. The dry valley loop is now 30m above the river. The river turns right into another meander, whose loop, however, is not yet completed by a breakthrough. The two loops form an ideal horizontal number eight. Both meanders form the Naturschutzgebiet “Neckarburg” On the sunny side of the slopes and on the remaining hill inside the loop “Neckarburg” valuable juniper heaths are well kept by nomadic pastoralism. From Rottweil to Oberndorf (ca. 14km by air) the river eroded its way through resistant Muschelkalk. This is why the river formed no less than nine meanders (one of them with a meander cut). |
