黒本2冊(合1冊)、題簽「新板/紫式部 上」、題簽の商標(丸に三星)により伊勢屋版、下冊題簽は当館蔵『青本外題張込集』1(請求記号:寄別5-4-3-7)にあり。柱題「紫」。所蔵は当館のみ。(内容)紫式部もの。(上)紫式部は越前守為時の娘で幼名藤式部と言い博学才智で読書を好んだ。無類の美人に成長し草壁大臣ほか殿上人からの艶書が積まれるが、めのと一人連れて天台山に登り天台一心三観の理を悟り仏教に帰依する。一条院のお召しを父為時はお受けする。草壁大臣が途中で攫おうとするが、矢橋の六郎が働き大臣を追い散らし式部を一条院へ送る。「博学の女を差し上げよ」との上東門院の仰せで其方を遣わすとの一条院のお言葉に様々に辞退したが門院の御所へ上がる。(下)一条院は門院へ「我が縁の者、あわれと思し召し給われ」と申され「紫のひともとゆひのむさしのの草はみなからあわれとそみる」の歌により紫式部と改める。加茂斎院が上東門院へ珍しい物語を求め、門院は式部に新しい草紙をと仰せらる。式部は近江の石山寺へ深く祈誓し籠もり、中秋の月が湖水に映り須磨明石の2巻から初め源氏54帖を作る。斎院喜び橘中納言行成奥書を添える。式部は日本記の局と世に賞美され、父為時参内し喜ぶ。紫式部は観音の化身なので普く迷いの人を助けんと仮に済度し光を放し給う、有難いことだ。(木村八重子)(2020.9最終更新)(参考文献)有働裕「草双紙に描かれた紫式部―その独自性と影響関係」(黒石陽子, 東京学芸大学[著]「近世中期文化を視野に入れた初期草双紙の総合的研究」[黒石陽子], 2006-2009, 2010.3 文部科学省科学研究費補助金研究成果報告書 所収)
