司馬江漢(1747-1818)による我が国最初の銅版世界地図で、地球が球体であることがはっきりわかるような図様になっている。初版は『輿地全図』と題されて寛政4年(1792)に出版された。以後刊記をそのままに改題増補され、『地球全図』としては少なくとも4種の刊本がある。本書は欄外の風景動植物図が追加された第3版。司馬江漢は画家だが、平賀源内の影響で蘭学に関心を持ち、日本初の腐食銅版画の製作や西洋科学知識の紹介に力を注いだ。(電子展示会「江戸時代の日蘭交流」より)
