近松門左衛門が、京都で歌舞伎作者をしていた時期の絵入狂言本(えいりきょうげんぼん)。絵入狂言本とは、歌舞伎のあらすじを挿絵入りで記したもので、当時の歌舞伎興行のパンフレットのような刊行物である。脇方簽および内題下に「近松門左衛門」とあり。八文字屋八左衛門板。関根只誠・木村素石・萩原乙彦らの旧蔵書。本作は、元禄16年(1703)5月、京都四条大芝居(名代早雲長太夫・座本大和屋藤吉)の初演。同年4月の近江唐崎における、入水による心中事件をお家騒動と絡め、さらに劇中劇として「三勝半七七年忌」の心中劇を組み込んでいる。実は、京都四条大芝居ではこの「三勝半七七年忌」の狂言を4月から上演しており、5月初演の本作中において劇中劇とすることで、これを続演したのである。加えて、この三勝・半七の心中劇には、同年4月5日に起きた、おしゅん・庄兵衛の「米屋心中」が投影されており、その心中劇を、唐崎心中のおあさ・清兵衛が見物するという、奇抜な趣向となっている。表紙見返しには「からさき心中道行 つた山小歌」、および八文字屋の広告あり。「つた山小歌」は、同5月に大坂・竹本座で初演された世話浄瑠璃「曽根崎心中」の道行とほぼ同文であるが、その先後関係は明らかになっていない。岩波書店『近松全集』第16巻の翻刻は、掲出本が底本である。(田草川みずき)(2020.2)
