書簡。山東京伝自筆・自画。文化10年(1813)頃成。1枚(軸装)。戯作者山東京伝が、晩年特に力を注いだ考証随筆『骨董集』(当館請求記号:京-36、841-11)に関連して、秋田藩に仕える狩野派の絵師(江戸住)で古書画の鑑定に優れた「菅原洞斎(すがわら・とうさい)」に宛てた1通。洞斎は展観会を主催し、大名以下、武士・町人を問わず同好の知識人をつなぐ役割を果たした人(安田篤生、2009.3)。近年、資料の貸借・考証結果の相互利用など、京伝との交流についても研究が進み、掲出書簡はその一端を示すものである(有澤知世、2017.11)。内容は、洞斎の子息に依頼してあった、「虫のたれ衣(ぎぬ)」(=女性が山野で笠の周囲に垂らして虫除けにする絹布)・蚊帳図の模写の念押し(前者については、使用した時代の教示も求める)と、『福富の草子』の成立年代についての質問で、それぞれ、『骨董集』に対応する項目・記述がある。書簡末尾は、ご面倒をおかけするが「好古の一癖」とお許しください、と結ばれる。(大高洋司)(2020.2)(参考文献)安田篤生「江戸時代後期における書画展観会と鑑定―谷文晁とその周辺」、中村俊春編『前近代における「つかのまの展示」研究』(2005~2008年度科学研究費補助金基盤研究(B)研究成果報告書[研究課題番号17320029])、2009.3当館電子展示会「あの人の直筆」[掲出書簡の翻刻・解説所収]、2016.8提供開始有澤知世「山東京伝の考証と菅原洞斎―『画師姓名冠字類鈔』に見る考証趣味のネットワーク―」、『国語国文』86(11)、2017.11
