著名な武将の戦闘場面などを描き、上段に説明を加えた絵本。源平合戦が主だが、楠木正成父子別れの場面や大江山鬼退治の場面もある。表紙は後補、題簽はなく、書名は序題による。原題簽には「大和絵 むしや絵づくし」とあるという。天和3年(1683)の刊行で、当館本は刊記から刊年を削除した後印本。延宝8年(1680)刊行と推定される別版があり、当初は同年刊の『大和絵づくし』等と一連のものとして刊行されたと思われる。序文には「房州の海辺菱川氏といふ絵師」という師宣の出自に関する記述や「うき世絵師」の呼称が見える。跋文には「大和絵師 菱川吉兵衛尉」と署名がある。国学者黒川真頼(1829-1906)、真道(1866-1925)父子旧蔵。
