題箋、内題ともになし。書名は、外箱題「七艸絵巻物」及び内容による仮題。正月七日の七草行事の由来を記した彩色絵巻。室町時代物語絵巻のひとつ。中国の孝子「大しやう」は、親の若返り法として春の七草の羹の作り方を帝釈天より授かる。その教示どおりに作って食べさせると親は若返った。これが天子にも聞こえて出世する、という孝子出世談に併せて、年頭の祝儀ものの性格ももつ。全5図。成立年代、絵師ともに不明。外箱裏書「大須賀氏蔵」、印記「〓軒鑑賞」。大須賀〓軒(1841-1912)は磐城の人で、伊達家狩野派に学び書画をよくした。表紙の「対い鶴菱紋」と「曜紋」は奥州盛岡藩南部氏の家紋。料紙、装丁ともに美麗であり、嫁入り本の可能性も考えられる。日本古典文学大系38ほかに翻刻されている。
