Summary
[edit]DescriptionMonument ThomasCary Died1567 OfCockington TorMohunChurch Devon.xcf |
English: Easter sepulchre monument of Thomas Cary (d.1567) of Cockington, St Saviours's Church, Tor Mohun, Devon. The escutcheon has recently been covered in gold paint, having been white before, without surviving tinctures. The church is the ancient parish church of Tor Mohun, now absorbed by the modern town of Torquay, and the church has been operated since the 1960s as a Greek Orthodox Church. Unusual Renaissance-style candelabra on either side with spandrels showing vines inhabited by Cary swans (as in the crest). The inscription is hidden by the radiator. For a detailed image of the escutcheon (hidden here behind an icon) see |
