Summary

Description
English: Mural monument in St Bridget's Chapel, St James's Church, Swimbridge, Devon, of James Nott (1768-1809) of Tordown in the parish of Swimbridge. High up on the east wall, view made difficult by proximity of organ. Inscribed:
M(emoriae) S(acrum) ("sacred to the memory of") of James Nott Esquire of Tordown obiit 7th August 1809 aged 41 years
Stay! Hail a bright example pouring forth,
The modest fruits of un-assuming worth,
His bosom glow'd with friendliness & love,
He sooth'd Man's pains, gave praise to HIM above,
How great esteem his walk thr'o life had gain'd,
Sorrow with loudest voice hath long proclaim'd,
Quando ullum invenient parem? ("When will they find anyone equal?")
