Summary
[edit]DescriptionMizen Peninsula, Three Castles - geograph.org.uk - 1429768.jpg |
English: Mizen Peninsula: Three Castles Barely visible through the murk of a mizzly Irish summer's day, and nearly disappearing into the background rocky hillside, the Three Castles are actually three ruined fortified tower houses linked by curtain walling and dating from the fifteenth century. The curtain walling runs from Dun Lough to the right over a low valley to Dunlough Bay to the left. In 1991, when the photograph was taken, the ruins could be freely visited, as evidenced by the specks of two people just below and to the left of the centre tower, but I understand that the structures are now in such a dangerous state that they cannot be visited without permission. |
