Summary
[edit]DescriptionMiss Taylor.tif |
English: Miss Mabel Taylor the Bradshaw children's governess on horseback. She took up her governess position in order to help her mother support her younger siblings, as her father had died when the youngest of her 5 siblings was only a baby. In this photograph she is wearing the specially made divided skirt she felt she needed, to ride astride modestly, instead of side-saddle as was usual for ladies at the time. Mabel died of TB (Tuberculosis) two years after returning to Adelaide. She was the granddaughter of Samuel Smith, founder of Yalumba Wines at Angaston in South Australia. |
