Summary

[edit]
Description
English: An Indian Air Force (IAF) video dated 24 June 1999 showing a Dassault Mirage 2000 of the No. 7 Squadron IAF dropping the first Paveway laser guided bombs (LGBs) on Pakistani bunkers, which served as the command and control centre of the Pakistan Army's Northern Light Infantry battalion, on Tiger Hill, during the 1999 Kargil War. This was also the first time the IAF used LGBs in combat.
Shortly after the strike, two IAF Mirage 2000 aircraft returning from a bombing run on another target 80 km west, recorded video showing a single Pakistani survivor of the attack on Tiger Hill. Following the recapture of Tiger Hill, the Indian Army's field headquarters sent a congratulatory message to the IAF on 10 July 1999 stating, "You guys have done a wonderful job. Your Mirage boys with their precision laser-guided bombs targeted an enemy battalion headquarters in Tiger Hill with tremendous success. Five Pakistani officers reported killed in that attack and their command and control broke down — as a result of which our troops have literally walked over the entire Tiger Hill area. The enemy is on the run. They are on the run in other sectors also. At this rate, the end of the conflict may come soon."
