Summary

[edit]
Description
English: It's neither as big as an Airbus A380 or an Antonov An-124 and nor is it as fast as a Eurofighter Typhoon or a Lockheed Martin F-22, yet it is easily one of the most impressive aircraft flying today, the Mil Mi-24. It has proven to be a deadly weapon in many conflicts since it entered service in 1972 and its military capabilities are certainly part of its appeal, but for me it's first and foremost its stunning speed, maneuverability and of course crazy looks that made it one of the highlights of ILA Berlin Air Show in 2016.

The Mil Mi-24 is an attack helicopter, developed in the Soviet Union in the mid-1960s and still in operation today! It first flew in September 1969 and is codenamed "Hind" by the NATO, while its pilots are said to call it "летающий танк" (flying tank) or "крокодил" (crocodile). In contrast to most attack helicopters, the Mi-24 offers room for passengers (8 of them), which means it needs to be comparatively big, making its flight characteristics even more impressive. With a top speed in excess of 170 knots (362.5 mph, 583.4 kmph) it still is amongst the fastest helicopters around!

The Mi-24 featured in the video is in service with the Czech Air Force and piloted by Major Jan Vanický.
