English: This slow motion movie (original length is 2.0 s) shows a primary cultured mechanosensitive enteric neuron (MEN) firing action potentials after neurite stimulation with a von Frey hair. The white (originally red) outline of the neuron can be seen because Di-8-ANEPPS incorporates into the membrane. The stimulation site is marked with the yellow arrowhead. The trace at the bottom shows the spike discharge in this particular MEN. Once the movie starts there is a running bar indicating the elapsed time. The bar is running from 0 to 2.0 s. The overlay illustrates the color coded signals from the MEN; red color indicates discharge of action potentials. Shortly after the stimulus the neuron fired action potentials (red color). The firing adaptation defines the neuron as a slowly adapting MEN (SAMEN). |
