Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Masons' Cave, Cove Haven. Cove Haven was once a refuge for smugglers. Within it lies the Masons' Cave, so called because St Thomas Lodge met in it annually on St John's Day for the admission of members. This is recorded in the Old Statistical Account of Scotland (ca. 1790) when Rev. Aitkin notes that 'The Mason Lodge of Arbroath built a gate to it, and gave it a door many years ago.'
