English: “Third day 12 mo 20th 1853
Dear Brother
Well I think I am now on my last letter to thee for we hoping to see thee seventh day and please don’t dissapoint us - We learned today from Aunt Mary – Ann that if Cousins Lizzie and Burroughs came they would not arrive here untill seven o’clock in the evening which would be to late for thee, as I presume thee knows Caroline Mackey has invited us there to spend Seventh day afternoon – she is going to have a company for us, about thirty in all I believe both boys and girls, thee had better come Mother says on the first train that comes on Seventh day. if thee comes in the afternoon get ready before thee starts so as to come right to Mackeys for it would be time for thee to come clear home and get ready and go up there again. we killed fifteen Hogs today Father has sold several of them. I do not know exactly how many we are going to put down. Willie goes to school and is a very good boy he is sitting by me now reading in his book he sleeps up stairs altogether now, he sends a kiss to thee, - he got a paper today from school that a man brought there admitting him for Five cents to a panorama of the Whole of California on Seventh day afternoon at three o clock but I think he will not go for he does not care much about it he has got quite over his cold so has Jennie I think I must close so good bye – from thy Aff sister

Dear Brother Richard
Sarah has been writing thee a few lines and I must fill the blank space. I suppose thee is thinking of coming home I hope thee will enjoy thy self Christmas is fast approaching and with it I believe comes Winter no not Winter but Winter weather. We have beeen out in the sleigh three or four times has thee been in a sleigh this season? but I suppose not. I think we shall have one week vacation. Are Cousin Lizzie and Burroughs coming home to spend the Holydays We think thee had better come home at 3 oclock I think the train leaves Syracuse about one but thee can find out by asking Burroughs Sarah and I will meet thee at Mackeys. What time does your school commence? Father has some of the cattle in the old barn opposite Uncle George’s I believe Uncle George is much better but I have not seen him for several days. Was first day very stormy with you it snowed nearly all day here and was [bitter – crossed out] very cold I do not know whether we shall write to thee again before Seventh day or not Little George has a swelling on one side of his neck it is some what better to-day, but I must close with much love from one and all to you I remain thy affectionate sister

Thy letter was recieved to-day Mother says she would be very glad to have this little boy if it were not that we expect Thomas Spackman is coming Seventh day to spend a week with us and we expect to have a great deal of company next week Mary Vail and the children are coming and we expect to go to Emeline Bacons & have a party & all in next week. Mother says that any other time would suit much better. When thee comes home again she thinks it would be more convenient then you can enjoy yourselves much more. Father thinks the same & Mother has a bad cold & neuralgia in her face. we are going to have a small company for thee. Please tell cousin Lizzie that mother saw a pair of those woven [gloves] in Philadelphia and intended to have bought a pair there but forgot them. she knows what they are We are very glad that thee is coming on 6th day with much love I remain sister
