English: Martyrs Monument, St Andrews. Martyrs Monument on the Scores,commemorating the men executed on the Scores for their Protestant beliefs. Patrick Hamilton promoted the doctrines of Martin Luther, Henry Forrest owned a copy of the New Testament in English, Walter Myln advocated married clergy and George Wishart, burnt at the stake for defying the Catholic Church. In the end their cause succeeded and Scotland became Protestant in the Reformation of 1560. |
