| Description |
English: Marshcroft Farm, Tring. Marshcroft Farm was known as Park Hill Farm until the later part of the 20th century, when a new Park Hill Farm was built a few hundred yards away on the north side of the railway line. Some of the farm buildings have been converted to housing, but other buildings are still in agricultural use.
The farm is nor shown in Dury and Andrews' map of 1766 www.hertfordshire-genealogy.co.uk/links/map-1766.htm but is marked on Bryant's map of 1822 www.hertfordshire-genealogy.co.uk/links/map-1822.htm and shows buildings round a courtyard. It may therefore have been built to farm the land on the N.E. Of the canal - which was built at the end of the 18th century. In 1851 the farmer was Joseph Clark, who farmed 135 acres and employed 7 labourers. Other pictures of the farm. 1454111. 1454126. 1454137. 1454120. 1454144. 1454148. |
