Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Mexica illustration, found in the 16th-century Codex Mendoza, of a mother teaching her 14-year-old daughter the art of weaving using a device known in English as a backstrap loom (telar de cintura in Spanish), which has been used in Mexico since the pre-Hispanic period and continues to be used in indigenous communities to create traditional clothing. On top of them two tortillas are illustrated, indicating the amount of food the daughter is being typically fed at her age.
