Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Baroque confessionals in the South transept of the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The six 17th-century confessionals are a superb work of wood carving by Daniel van Vlierden of Hasselt. They were made for the nearby Dominican church in Maastricht and were moved here in 1804 after the dissolution of the monasteries by the French. The mid-17th-century painting above is by an unknown Netherlandish(?) painter with Italian (Caravaggio) influence. It depicts the crucifixion of Saint Peter.
