De portretten van Voetius (1589-1676) en Coccejus (1603-1669) verschijnen op theekopjes want zij zijn bekende protestantse theologen uit de 17de eeuw. Tussen de beide hoogleraren en hun aanhangers ontbrandt een strijd die lang zal duren. Coccejus betoogt onder meer dat de Tien Geboden behoren tot de ceremoniële geboden, die sinds Christus' offer geen geldigheid meer hebben. Strikte zondagsheiliging is dan ook niet meer noodzakelijk. Dat leidt tot grote protesten want volgens Voetius is de rustdag voor eeuwig ingesteld.
