DescriptionLuis.Brackebusch.1891.jpg |
The map partially reproduced here corresponds to the "Map of the Argentine Republic and the neighbouring countries-II Southern Part. Drawn up on the basis of existing data by Dr. Luis Brackebusch, Profesor at the University of Cordoba,1891". This is one of the most remarkable samples of Argentine cartography of the last century both for the perfection of its contours and for the prestige of the author. It was the subject of laudatory comments in "Mitteilungen" by Petermann (vol. 38, 1892) and in "Le Tour du Monde (Nouvelles Geographiques)" (N°9, September 1892). No international boundary is traced in the Beagle Channel, but , according to the colouring given to the Chilean and Argentine territories, it can be seen that they show Picton, Nueva and Lennox Islands and all other islands and islets extending southward as far as cape Horn as being under Chilean sovereignty. |
