Summary
[edit]DescriptionLongdean Bottom, Great Ridge near Chicklade 1 - geograph.org.uk - 471608.jpg |
English: Longdean Bottom, Great Ridge near Chicklade 1 For much of its length, the public footpath from the centre of Great Ridge to Park Bottom descends through Longdean Bottom, which is the upper part of a dry chalk valley. Although Great Ridge, which is owned by the Fonthill Estate, is part commercially forested conifer wood, the other part is ancient oak woodland which is managed for nature conservation and to maintain the landscape. Here the deciduous wood was thinned out and replanted some years ago with appears to be beech or field maple, whilst an old oak tree remains. |
