Nederlands: Voor de nieuwe productie van Les ballets C de la B laten regisseur/choreograaf Alain Platel en componist Fabrizio Cassol hun oog vallen op Mozart. Een idee van Cassol, bekend van de avant-garde jazzband Aka Moon. Hij schrijft met deze hedendaagse interpretatie van Mozarts Requiem verder aan een persoonlijke artistieke geschiedenis waarin hij verschillende muzikale culturen samenbrengt rond een bepaalde thematiek. Hiervoor steunt hij zowel op orale als geschreven tradities. Veertien Afrikaanse en Europese muzikanten reconstrueren Mozarts Requiem door het te laten fusioneren met jazz, opera en populaire Afrikaanse muziek. Alain Platel zoekt naar een fysieke en visuele vertaling van associaties en beelden die een requiem oproepen, van dodenmis over massagraven tot afscheidsrituelen. Français : Pour le nouveau spectacle de la compagnie Les ballets C de la B, le metteur en scène et chorégraphe Alain Platel et le compositeur Fabrizio Cassol s'attaquent à Mozart. C'est une idée de Cassol, membre de la formation de jazz d'avant-garde Aka Moon. Avec cette interprétation contemporaine du Requiem de Mozart, il continue d'écrire une histoire artistique personnelle rassemblant diverses cultures musicales autour d'un même thème, en s'appuyant sur les traditions orales et écrites. Quatorze musiciens africains et européens reconstituent le Requiem de Mozart au travers d'une fusion avec le jazz, l'opéra et la musique populaire africaine. Alain Platel imagine une transposition physique et visuelle de la musique, constituée d'associations d'idées et d'images évoquant un requiem, allant de la messe des morts aux fosses communes, en passant par les rituels d'adieu. English: For Les ballets C de la B’s new production, director/choreographer Alain Platel and composer Fabrizio Cassol are focusing on Mozart. The idea came from Cassol, who is known as a member of the avant-garde jazz band Aka Moon. This contemporary interpretation of Mozart’s Requiem is a further contribution to his personal artistic history, in which he brings together a number of different musical cultures around a particular theme. For this he draws upon both oral and written traditions. Fourteen African and European musicians reconstruct Mozart’s Requiem by fusing it with jazz, opera and popular African music. Alain Platel seeks a physical and visual translation of associations and images that conjure up a requiem: from a requiem mass, to mass graves, to farewell rituals. |
