Description |
English: The crucifix is probably of German origin and can be dated back to the mid-17th century. It probably came from a Catholic region, such as southern Germany, since it includes the figure of Christ. Crucifixes from Protestant regions only contained the cross. The existence of a Catholic item in Sweden is not unusual; even though Sweden was fully protestant in the 17th century, the Swedish church and its members had Catholic aesthetics. Like other estates, Skokloster was audited occasionally, and especially when an owner died and an estate inventory had to be prepared. The oldest information about this crucifix states that it was in the prayer room, which no longer exists. |
