Description
Deutsch: Das ursprüngliche Kreuz stammt aus dem Jahr 1848. 1945 durch ein neues ersetzt. 1993 noch einmal ersetzt.

Erinnert an den Tod von Wilhelm Wertz.

Er und seine Freundin kamen am 21. Juni 1848 von der Kirmes. An der Brücke wurde das Mädchen von drei preußische Soldaten belästigt. Herr Wertz stellte die Soldaten zur Rede und es kam zu einem Handgemenge. Daraufhin zug einer der Solden sein Gewehr und verletzte ihn schwer. Er verstarb im St. Nikolaus Hospital in Eupen.
Français : La croix originale date de 1848. 1945 remplacée par une nouvelle. Remplacée à nouveau en 1993. Rappelle la mort de Wilhelm Wertz. Lui et sa petite amie reviennent de la foire le 21 juin 1848. Au pont, la jeune fille fut molestée par trois soldats prussiens. M. Wertz a confronté les soldats et une échauffourée s'en est suivie. Sur quoi l'un des soldats a tiré son fusil et l'a gravement blessé. Il est mort à l'hôpital St. Nicholas d'Eupen.
Nederlands: De oorspronkelijke kruis dateert uit 1848. 1945 vervangen door een nieuwe. Opnieuw vervangen in 1993. Doet denken aan de dood van Wilhelm Wertz. Hij en zijn vriendin keerden terug van de beurs op 21 juni 1848. Bij de brug werd het meisje lastig gevallen door drie Pruisische soldaten. De heer Wertz confronteerde de soldaten en volgde een handgemeen. Daarop trok een van de soldeers zijn geweer en verwondde hem ernstig. Hij stierf in het St. Nicholas Hospital, Eupen.
English: The original cross dates from 1848. 1945 replaced by a new one. Replaced again in 1993.

Reminds of the death of Wilhelm Wertz.

He and his girlfriend returned from the fair on June 21, 1848. At the bridge the girl was molested by three Prussian soldiers. Mr. Wertz confronted the soldiers and a scuffle ensued. Thereupon one of the solders pulled his rifle and injured him severely. He died in St. Nicholas Hospital, Eupen.
