Koor & Orkest Collegium Vocale Gent . Philippe Herreweghe Nederlands: Weinig barokcomponisten waren zich zo sterk bewust van hun historische positie als Johann Sebastian Bach. Terwijl de meeste van zijn collega's en tijdgenoten uitsluitend op bestelling schreven, hield 'der alte Bach' zich tijdens het laatste decennium van zijn leven graag bezig met verleden én toekomst. Bach zette doelbewust 'definitieve' versies van enkele van zijn grootste werken op papier, om ze voor het nageslacht te bewaren. Of hij richtte zijn aandacht nog één keer op een genre dat hem na aan het hart lag, zoals in 'Die Kunst der Fuge'. Tegelijkertijd werkte hij aan een grootse, allesomvattende mis, deels opgebouwd uit vroeger geschreven cantates, deels volledig nieuw gecomponeerd. In de 'H-moll Messe' synthetiseert Bach twee eeuwen kerkmuziek op onnavolgbare wijze. Passages in archaïsch, streng contrapunt staan naast de meest moderne, zelfs galante aria's. Alors que la plupart de ses collègues et contemporains ne composaient que sur commande, 'der alte Bach', pendant les dix dernières années de sa vie, se souciait beaucoup du passé et du futur. Consciemment, Bach coucha sur papier des versions 'définitives' de quelques-unes de ses plus grandes œuvres, afin de pouvoir les transmettre aux générations futures. Ou comme dans le 'Kunst der Fuge', il porta une dernière fois encore son attention sur un genre qui lui tenait particulièrement à cœur. En même temps, il travailla à une grand-messe intégrale, en partie constituée de cantates écrites antérieurement, en partie de composition tout à fait neuve. Dans la 'H-moll Messe', avec son savoir-faire inégalable, Bach réalise une synthèse de deux siècles de musique sacrée. Des passages en contrepoint archaïque et sévère côtoient des arias très modernes et même galantes. Qui donc pourrait interpréter avec plus de justesse ce compendium de musique baroque que le Collegium Vocale Gent, ensemble qui mieux qu'aucun autre, arrive à combiner expérience et enthousiasme ? English: There are very few Baroque composers who were as deeply conscious of their historical position as Bach. While most of his colleagues and contemporaries wrote exclusively on commission, 'der alte Bach' chose to devote the last decade of his life to the past and the future. Bach was steadfast about choosing to commit 'definitive' versions of some of his largest works to paper in order for them to be preserved for posterity. He did however choose to direct his attention one final time to a specific genre that was of particular interest to him: 'The Art of the Fugue'. At the same time he was also composing a large, all-encompassing mass, made up of parts from previous cantatas, joined into a completely new work. In the B minor Mass, Bach synthesises two centuries of church music in his inimitable style. Passages in archaically stern counterpoint sit alongside the most modern, even chivalrous arias. In all honesty, who better could present such a compendium of Baroque music than the Collegium Vocale Gent, an ensemble that couples experience and enthusiasm like no other. |
