English: As a U.S. Air Force veteran, STS-114 Commander Eileen Collins understands the hard work and sacrifices involved in military service. On Nov. 1, she showed her support for Central Florida veterans during a visit to the Brevard Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic. The clinic is located in Brevard County, Florida -- home of NASA's Kennedy Space Center. 'Our veterans have really done so much for the freedom of our country and I thank all of you for that. The work that you do here not only helps the patient, but it is of great help for the families of patients and the friends of patients that have to live with people that have needs in the medical area.' Collins and the space center's director, Jim Kennedy, helped dedicate the clinic's newest wing, named after the Space Shuttle Discovery. The facility's three primary care units and two specialty clinics are named after various NASA programs and spacecraft. The ceremony was attended by an enthusiastic crowd of veterans. 'As a member of Brevard County, I am proud that we have a clinic, a VA clinic, that services some 19,000 patients per year. People whose lives would be altered significantly if not for the service that you provide.'
