Description
English: BRUCE BUCKINGHAM: Next question, from Don in Santa Barbara. Don says, 'I know there's a GOES West and there's a GOES East, but can you tell me what that means?' ANDRE' DRESS: Sure. The U.S. employs two satellites that are operationally GOES satellites, and what the east bird actually sits out over the east coast, which is 75 degrees west longitude, and that's directly over the east coast. And the other satellite is the west spacecraft, and it's, and it's stationed out about 135 degrees west longitude, which is out over the Pacific Ocean. And with those two satellites, we have coverage looking out just off of the tip of Africa, all the way over to the tip of Australia, and those combined with those two satellites, we can, those give you the images that you see at night on your TV screen when you're watching the weather. BRUCE BUCKINGHAM: Very good.
