English: MS. STILSON: Adrian from Manchester asks do the astronauts' feel a temperature increase during re-entry due to the massive temperature increase outside the spacecraft. MS. HIRE: Actually inside of the Space Shuttle, during entry, we do not actually feel that temperature increase. And the reason is, for entry, just like ascent, we're wearing a pressure suit. And inside, underneath this suit, actually, we wear a garment that has little plastic tubes and we run water through these tubes. And we can adjust the flow of this water. It's cool water. and it helps keep us cool and keeps our temperature regulated. So the temperature outside of that, we're not really able to sense that. MS. STILSON: Probably a good thing. Right. MS. HIRE: It probably is, yes. |
