English: MS. STILSON: Raja in Manassas asks if the astronauts are trained to handle any medical emergencies on board. MS. HIRE: Yes. Every Space Shuttle and Space Station crew is trained to handle a certain range of medical emergencies, and we have medical kits onboard, first aid kits, and a little bit beyond that. And also we had medical doctors fly as members of Space Shuttle and Space Station crews. So there is actually quite a range of medical emergencies that we could handle on board the Space Shuttle or the Space Station. But we're also prepared, if something is beyond the capability, to be able to make an expedited landing back on the Earth. |
