| Description |
English: Artist' concept of eternal sunset over ultra-hot Jupiter KELT-9 b, the hottest known exoplanet. KELT-9 is a white or a blue-white main-sequence B9-A0 star, 2-3 times larger and 2-5 times more massive than the Sun. Its surface temperature is about 10000 °C.
KELT-9 b is a gas giant planet at about 2.8 times the mass of Jupiter and its radius is nearly 2 times of Jupiter's. KELT-9 b is tidally locked with its host star. It is so close to its host star that the outer boundary of its atmosphere nearly reaches its Roche lobe, implying that the planet is experiencing rapid atmospheric escape. As of 2023, KELT-9 b is the hottest known exoplanet, with a dayside temperatures approaching 4600 K (4327 °C) — hotter than some K-type stars. The host star is being a giant 45° bright white sphere in KELT-9 b' sky. This is not an artificial intelligence (AI) work. |
